Father's Day!

We wanted to thank our family for remembering Jase on Father's Day--Uma, the pie you gifted Jase was SO yummy. I surprised him with a Chocolate Satin cream pie and we all LOVED it! Thanks also for the sweet cards from everyone and Gary for visiting us--Jase felt very loved on his special day. We do appreciate him immensely and love him TONS!

Garden Cam Cont'd

As per Mom's request, here are some recent shots of our garden's activities: corn, watermelon, cantelope, squash, etc. We're learning a lot this year, but are having difficulty keeping the white flies and caterpillars off of everything. So far we've learned that blasting them with the hose works pretty well! If you have any other tips, feel free to share :)

Library Days

So we went to the library to see an amazing balloonist last week and Jonah ended up getting to be a part of his act. Jonah was one of the mummy brothers (hence the hat and the mummy actions in the picture) and got to decorate a "wife" with mummy strips (wrapping the white balloons around her until she was totally covered up!). It was pretty fun. Of course, Ashy had to try on the hat too once he saw brother doing it!

2nd Try to Beat the Heat

Well, we had a slip-n-slide before but it was ruining our grass due to flooding :) So, now we're trying out an interesting sprinkler attachment that was on sale at Kids-R-Us. It has these squiggly offshoots that wiggle and flip around shooting water everywhere. It's pretty funky and the kids love it! Just in time--with temps reaching the 100's now!

Cuddles & Cuteness

I LOVE that our boys have so much fun together these days--watching movies, wrestling on our beanbag, reading books, or taking baths. They truly are soulmates and so much alike. I just had to document them in all their cuteness!

Our Newest Cub Scout

Lately we've been introduced to the wonderful world of Scouting since Jonah turned 8. Unfortunately, I never paid attention to all those years of my older brothers participating in the scouting program so I had absolutely no idea what to do or how to get Jonah started with all of this. So, after a few weeks we finally found out who his den mother was and then another week or two later we got down to the scout store and were baffled by the multitude of clothing found there--shirts, shorts, scarves, hats, badges--good grief! Someone's making a fortune :*)
Anyway, we stumbled our way through that store--pleading with workers to help me find what we need while keeping Asher from running out the door--and (fast forward one month) he's now working on his Wolf. He received his first badge two weeks ago, the Bobcat. We're so proud of him and he looks absolutely adorable in his little uniform. Boys are so fun!

From Orange to Blue

On May 28th, Jase and Jonah tested (again :) for their next belt rank and they both PASSED! They're now officially blue belts!! They'd been orange belts for around 9 months and worked very hard to achieve their next rank. I watched their hour-long ordeal, but they survived and we all got Coldstone ice-cream afterwards -- yum! Way to go guys!

Our Bounty

We're starting to see some harvest from our great summer garden experiment this year. As you can see from the pictures, we've been blessed mostly with squash (crookneck and patty-pan), cucumbers, swiss chard lettuce, and okra. So, I've been getting pretty good with making lettuce wraps for lunch each day, okra/tomato/squash stir-fry, and refrigerator bread-n-butter pickles. We're anxiously looking forward to trying our watermelon, cantelope, and corn-on-the-cob. Yum!!

Another fun weekend :)

Well, we'd finally had it with our side gate looking drab, tan and sounding squeaky! We'd had this burgundy wood stain in our garage for months (along with painting supplies) and couldn't take it anymore! So, we finally stained our side gate by: first, removing all wood slats and trying to sand them...but when that was taking forever we decided that they looked just fine; second, hand staining each slat front, back, top, bottom and side after moving them all into the backyard and figuring out how to put plastic up onto the house; third, removing all screws and staining them black; and fourth, trying desperately to put all the wood slats back in and (sometimes) forcing them into place :) We found out the hard way that wood warps and changes and really likes where it's originally put and if you don't keep track of where it was originally put it will throw a tantrum and refuse to fit back into place---whew! But we (read "Jase") did it and were so happy afterwards :) Another fun weekend put to rest.
