On March 26, 2010 Jase and I decided to be responsible ASD parents and attend an autism conference at the Phoenix Convention Center put on by the Autism Society of Arizona. I was mostly interested in going to attend a class on biomedical approaches. But it turned out that Asher's habilitator, Robert Hillman, showed up to watch the kids without a car. Since someone needed to pick up Jonah from Candeo, I decided to leave at lunch and come back. Turned out that I ended up leaving Jase with no money or transportation to get lunch himself AND I missed the one class that was worth attending. Luckily Jase was there and got lots of good info.
We began seeing Dr. Geoffrey Radoff on March 8th. He is a D.A.N. (Defeat Autism Now) doctor and very knowledgeable in both traditional and holistic medicine. Although we saw him primarily to help Asher, our whole family ended up getting treated! He is the most intelligent, compassionate, helpful doctor I've ever met in my entire life. He actually takes the time to listen to your concerns and, together, come up with a treatment plan. So, although I didn't get much from the conference it helped Jase and I solidify that the biomedical approach is what we needed to do for Ash. It has been amazing to watch the changes occur in him. Within days of taking Methyl-B12 shots, he began making sustained eye contact with all of us and desiring to play all the time with Jonah. Although he is one sick little boy, we're confidant that he's going to get the help that he needs, both now and in the future.
